Of rectangular form, the black velvet ground decorated with clear beads in the form of a large drop-shaped calligraphic design surrounded on either side by three additional smaller calligraphic excersizes, mounted on a wooden panel

Lot Essay

The inscription on this textile including: Qur'an LXVIII, sura al-qalam, parts of v.1, several undeciphered sections and a signature at the lower left which reads khatt-e Jalisi (Pen of Jalisi). The inscription at the lower right is Turkish and appears to read 'Islamic...of China'.
