A Blue-Laced Suit of Armor
Edo period (19th century)
Constructed of true lamellae and comprising: a thirty-two plate suji bachi lacquered black with each of the ridges highlighted in gold lacquer, the top of the bowl with a five-stage chrysanthemum tehen kanamono and the turnbacks decorated with family crests; the front of the helmet mounted with a large crescent-moon wood maedate lacquered gold; the helmet fitted with a five-lame neck guard; the facemask forges with deep wrinkles and lacquered russet-brown, the teeth gilt-copper, applied with a moustache and chin tuft and fitted with a five-lame throat guard; do maru cuirass fitted with seven sections of five-lame tassets; large o-sode decorated with stencilled leather on the top lame and applied with gilt-copper demon bosses; tsutsu gote sleeves; thight guards decorated with moths in gold lacquer; splint shin guards; hardware on the cuirass and o-sode gilt-copper carved with chrysanthemum scroll; with a daisho mounted in silvered-copper scabbards carved with floral scroll and paulownia family crests
