A Brown-Lacquer Koshirae with Crests of the Mori Family
Edo period (19th century)
The saya decorated in brown and black lacquer finished to resemble lacquered leather and flush-inlaid over the entire body with silver and gold strips, the scabbard mounted with shakudo nanako-ji kozuka, kogai, kuri-kata and kaeshi-zuno all decorated with gold plantains in uttori and Mori family crests in gold taka-zogan, the tsuka wrapped in yellow silk and mounted with shakudo nanako-ji fuchi-gashira decorated with copper paulownia, shakudo chrysanthemum, and gold plantains, all rendered in taka-zogan, signed Kaneko Jurobei saku gold menuki carved as two plantains surrounding a Mori family crest; the shakudo nanako-ji plate tsuba decorated with plantains and Mori family crests in gold taka-zogan
