the hull of the model, built up in wood, and painted with a dark red bottom and black topsides with the name in white the center of each side, and detailed with portholes and anchors, a single propeller mounted at the bow and dual propellers and rudder mounted at the stern; the main deck painted a slate grey and the upper decks are planked and detailed with bollards, anchor windlass, chocks, ventilators, hand railings, ladders, cargo masts, booms and winches, bridge and bridge wings with running lights and search lights, binnacle, engine telegraphs, life rings, funnel painted in yellow and black, four boats on davits, tow winch, and other details. Displayed on a pair of turned chrome pedestals within a mahogany framed glass case.

Lot Essay

the icebraeker Sisu actively worked the Baltic and North Sea, and during WW II she served the Finnish navy as a submarine tender. She was the first icebraker to have the Ward-Leonard DC electric propulsion system. Sisu had principal dimensions of 213ft 5½in. LOA, 47ft. 7in. Beam, 16ft 9in draft.
