The jar is carved on the globular body with four characters, mei jiu qing xiang (beautiful wine of clear fragrance) each within a panel divided by further panels of fruiting and flowering branches, above the tapered foot decorated with a band of upright leaves, all supported on an unglazed footrim burnt orange in the firing, the underside of the base countersunk in the centre, covered overall with a thick olive-green glaze (shallow nick to mouthrim)
