A Cased Pair Of 40-Bore Percussion Target Pistols
Signed Gunther & Cie. à Paris, circa 1850
With browned twist octagonal sighted barrels (some rust-pitting and loss of colour) signed in gold on the top flat, patent breeches engraved with vine leaves and numbered respectively '1' and '2' in gold, shaped tangs en suite, each incorporating the back-sight, border engraved locks decorated with further vine leaves and each with stepped tail, ebonized half-stocks each carved in relief with leaves on the fore-end, fluted butts, iron mounts engraved en suite with the locks, and set triggers: in original fitted case lined in plum velvet (faded, some staining and minor damage, lid of corner compartment missing), with accessories, the exterior of the lid with shaped brass escutcheon (loose), Liège proof
