Lot Essay

The Latin inscription is taken from Psalm LXXXVI, verse 10 and translates as Thou, God, arte great and do wonderous things, You alone are God. The scene itself with its Latin inscription and date are found on the obverse of a medal, the reverse noting the vain efforts of Emperor Phillip II, the duc de Guise, and others who conspired against Elizabeth I of England.
