Modelled as a youth writing a letter, wearing a tricorn hat, claret flowered coat and turquoise breeches, a maid observing him from behind a flower-encrusted tree-trunk, on a mound base inscribed on the underside in iron-red MES LIGNES FONT VOS LOUANGES above a gilt flower-spray below a green dentil rim, the stopper formed as a posy (minor chipping to petals, principally visible on stopper, areas of wear to enamels and gilding, minute chip to tip of quill)
