The kings and queens representing Imperial Emperors and Empresses, bishops as mandarins and courtiers, the knights on horseback, the rooks as elephants, the pawns as warriors
The king -- 6½ in. (16.5 cm.) including sword; the pawn -- 3 1/8 in. (8 cm.) high
Together with original Chinese hardwood fitted box, the interior silk-lined interior with two lift-out trays -- 23 in. (58.5 cm.) wide (2)
