Lot Essay

Charles Lindbergh, the famed aviator who completed the first solo nonstop flight between New York and Paris in May 1927, and his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, renowned author and aviatrix, met in Mexico City soon after his landmark flight, introduced by Anne's father, Dwight Morrow, United States ambassador to Mexico and later a US Senator representing New Jersey. The 23-year old Smith graduate and the world famous aviator were married in New Jersey two years later; by family tradition both this service and the initialed service, lot 414, were wedding presents to the young couple.
