A Chinese silver baluster shaped trophy with scrolling foliate handles, everted rim and spreading foot, the body decorated with a continuous scene of numerous figures before pavilions, equestrian warriors in battle charging with spears and fighting with swords, all in pine strewn landscapes and fenced rocky gardens, the foot with sprays of bamboo issuing from rockwork within a band of stiff leaves, the front with central crest inscribed 'Penang Races 1884, "The Criterion Vase" Won by Mr Jas Tait's Spangle ridden by Mr George Tait -- 13 1/8in. (33.2cm) high.
