A COMPOSITE GERMAN HAND-AND-A-HALF SWORD
Partly third quarter of the 16th Century, the remainder 19th Century
With 16th Century broad double-edged blade cut with two full-length shallow fullers on both sides, and struck with two marks on the outer-face at the forte, iron hilt formed of diamond section bars incorporating recurved quillons, the terminals swelling, gadrooned and drawn out to form a cluster of prongs, with a pair of arms, the rear arm terminal en suite and projecting forwards at an angle to the blade, knuckle-guard constructed from conjoined crescent-shaped bars and connected to the outer-ring by a diagonal bar of identical construction, boldly gadrooned tall pommel, and moulded leather-bound grip.
