Mounts apparently unmarked, Batavia, former Dutch East Indies, 1680-1720
On four later metal ball feet, the sides and cover carved with stylised oriental flowers and foliage, metal tinged handles, the front with a drawer, silver heart-shaped floral lockplate, four lines of silver, floral button-shaped mounts, the cover fitted with silver floral corner mounts and four plain brass button-shaped mounts
27.5cm high x 42cm. wide x 13cm. deep

Lot Essay

A virtually similar casket is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and illustrated in Jan Veenendaal, Furniture from Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India during the Dutch period, Delft, 1985, pl. 54.
