CIRCA 1680, BLUE 17 MARK
Painted in the manner of the Chinese Wanli period, the centre with an elephant with a naked rider seated on a howdah on its back, an official and three attendants standing nearby, within a circular cartouche with circles and scrolls at intervals, the well and border with radiating panels of symmetrical foliage alternating with panels of Oriental ladies seated in river landscapes, divided by further slender panels, the underside with stars alternating with lines, the footrim pierced for suspension (rim chip at 10 o'clock, slight chipping and flaking to rim)
