A DUTCH DELFT BLUE AND WHITE SPITTOON
CIRCA 1680-1700
The bulbous body painted with cut pomegranates and foliage flanking Cupid, forlorn and holding a down-turned branch, the underside of the broad flared flat rim with scrolls and flowers, the upper side with four drunken figures in a curtained interior strewn with wine ewers and goblets, one figure vomitting, another drinking and another tipping drink out from a goblet, with loop handle (section of rim between 12 and 3 o'clock broken out into three pieces and restuck, small losses along break at 3 o'clock and on underside, very small rim chip at 4 o'clock, section of handle restuck with slight associated chipping)
The rim 6 in. (15.1 cm.) diam.
