Lot Essay

THIS TABLE REFLECTS THE ENGLISH INFLUENCE ON DUTCH CABINET-MAKING BETWEEN CIRCA 1780-1795, WHEN LIGHT SATINWOOD AND OTHER EXOTIC VENEERS AND REFINED MARQUETRY BECAME FASHIONABLE, INFLUENCED BY THE DESIGNS OF HEPPLEWHITE AND SHERATON, PUBLISHED RESPECTIVELY IN 1788 AND 1794.
THE ENAMEL HANDLES DEPICTING FASHINABLY DRESSED LADIES OF THE LATER 18TH CENTURY, POSSIBLY INCLUDE PRINCESS WILHELMINA OF PRUSSIA, CONSORT TO STADHOLDER PRINCE WILLIAM V.
