Lot Essay

The arms are those of the Dutch (Frisian) families Nauta Beuckens and Swalue. For a further discussion on these arms, see an article by Dr. Jochem Kroes in 'Genealogie', March 1997, Chinees porselein met Nederlandse familiewapens.
A pair of tureens with the same coat-of-arms were sold in our London Rooms, 11 May 2004, lot 145; and a plate in these rooms, 19 October 1999, lot 386.
