A FAMILLE VERTE ARMORIAL MOULDED SAUCER-DISH Kangxi (1662-1722) Enamelled and gilt at the centre with a large coat-of-arms and crown, and inscribed MEGGELEN, at either side a parrot perched on a flowering peony spray, the moulded border with twelve radiating lotus-leaf-shaped panels of a seated or standing figure alternating with a vase of flowers, all reserved on a green and iron-red cell-pattern ground below the foliate rim, rim frits, underside rim chips 9½ in. (24 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

This dish is from one of several series of dishes (large dishes, saucer-dishes, plates and barber's bowls) bearing the arms of Holland, England, France, Luxembourg, and numerous Dutch and Flemish provinces and cities; at least twenty-three different arms are known and judging by the spelling of the names, were made to Dutch order.
