A fine 19th-Century lacquered-brass compound monocular microscope,
the Powell & Lealand No.3 stand, signed POWELL & LEALAND 170 Euston Road London 1860, the barrel mounted on a horizontal arm with twin strut supports atop the main limb incorporating rack and pinion adjustment and fine focusing screw, the fully mechanical stage with substage condensor mount with aperture disc and rack and pinion adjustment, and plano-concave mirror on double-jointed arm, the limb tilting on a raised tripod stand, with double nosepiece attachment, tweezers and a mahogany accessory case with Powell & Lealand 1½, 1, ¼, 1/8 and 1/25in. objectives in marked canisters, two eyepieces, live box, lieberkuhn collar, prismatic eyepiece, a large eyepiece analyser and a smaller one with threaded brass caps, substage condensor and stage forceps, in a fitted mahogany carrying case with brass handle and key -- 40.7cm.
