A FINE AND UNUSUAL SAGE-JUBAKO [PICNIC SET] EDO PERIOD (LATE 18TH-EARLY 19TH CENTURY) The kuro-nuri ground decorated on the outer box and the front in hiramaki-e, nashiji, tsukegaki and gin-fun with chidori flying past Uji bridge with giboshi on the bridge post tops and a willow tree on the front and two boats, one laden with bundles of brushwood overtaking another carrying five passengers on the back and the other side, further chidori on the top of the box, the brass carrying handle decorated with pines, the interior boxes and tray and the sake bottle decorated with a camp curtain under cherry blossom, ho-o and kiri, a man under an umbrella heading for a shrine, diagonal lines of flying cranes, drying fishing nets, shinobugusa, bamboo and pampas grass, flowers and grasses, sparrows flying over stooks of rice beside bamboo, a flower spray on a fan and pines in front of a red sun 22.5cm. high
