A FINE SOAPSTONE CARVING OF A LUOHAN 17TH CENTURY

The semi-translucent caramel-brown material finely carved as a luohan seated in a casual pose, with eyes half closed in a meditative expression, holding an alms bowl in one hand, wearing loose fitting garments falling in folds, the edges lacquered, gilt and incised with lotus scrolls, the hair picked-out in black lacquer (chip to tip of one earring)
