A finely engineered 1.062in.:1ft scale 5in. gauge model of the Great Central Railway Class 8B 4-4-2 locomotive No. 361,
built by J.D. Lewin from his own researches and drawings with brazed superheated copper boiler with four superheater elements and fittings including two water gauges, pressure gauge, safety, blower, two injector, steam brake, whistle and clack valves. Chassis details include twin outside cylinders with inside Stephenson's link reverse, finely fluted coupling rods, footplate controlled draincocks, mechanical lubricator, two injectors, whistle, steam operated brake gear, working leaf springs to leading and trailing wheels, the bogie with compensated springing, oil boxes to crosshead slide bars and coupled axle bearings, draw bar buffers, wood cab floor, dummy firebox washout plugs, lubricators and fine pipework, steps, hand and lamp irons and many other details. Tender details include working leaf springs, hand operated brake gear, hand feed pumps, water cocks, fine rivet detail, dummy tool boxes, lunch cupboard, firing irons and rack, steps, hand and lamp irons, finished in finely lined GCR livery with hand-painted crests -- 15 x 66½in. (38 x 169cm.) Display track with brass plates engraved Working scale model 1.062" to 1 foot built by David Lewin, Blaby, Leicester 1966-72. Lining, Lettering and Crests hand painted by Fred Berry and Class 8B Atlantic 4-4-2 Locomotive No 361 completed at Gorton Works, Manchester in July 1906, to the design of John George Robinson, Chief Mechanical Engineer
