Edo period (19th century)
Of oval section lacquered in iroe takamaki-e with a Noh actor holding a fan and wearing a mask of applied metal patinated with a shakudo finish, the surrounding area gyobu nashiji on a black lacquer ground, the reverse with a single pine tree enclosed by a rope fence, the interiors decorated in nashiji; fitted with a soft-metal ojime cast with silver grape vines on a shibuichi ground and a hako netsuke decorated in nashiji and with an applied gilt-metal dancer with a mask finished in shakudo
