The pietre dure top by Enrico Bosi, Last quarter 19th Century
The rectangular top inlaid with various semi-precious stones and glass depicting flower and fruit garlands centred by nesting birds within flowers, the base with a moulded edge, above a Vitruvian scroll frieze centred to the front and back by a mask, on foliate-decorated lyre-shaped supports and scrolled feet, joined by a scrolled stretcher with central urn finial, the table top underside with paper label printed H. BOSI/PLACE ST. TRINITA NO. 1/FLORENCE

Lot Essay

The Florentine firm of Bosi supplied a frame for a portrait of Vittorio Emanuele II circa 1870. The frame, embellished with pietre dure and pietre tenere plaquettes, can be found in the Museo del Risorgimento, Milan (see A. M. Giusti, Pietre Dure, London, 1992, pl. 69).
