POSSIBLY COLONIAL, LATE 18TH EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Depicting the French versus the North Africans, the kings and queens modelled as monarchs, bishops as clerics, knights as horses' heads, the rooks as turrets, pawns turned with knop finials
The king -- 2½in. (6.3cm.) high; the pawn -- 1 3/8in. (3.5cm.) high
