A French mahogany, silvered and gilt-brass striking novelty mantel clock, circa 1890
The spherical case applied with Roman chapters and with gilt hands, screwed within a frame resting on a mahogany plinth (originally marble?), resting on adjustable feet on a giltwood stand, with ebonised plinth and under glass dome, the eight day twin barrel movement with countwheel strike on bell and regulated by an arbor rising from the escape wheel through the top of the case, revolving a pointer regulated by a pendulum suspended from a silk thread above, the back plated stamped GLT and numbered 8588 -- 21in. (53.5cm.) high overall
