A FRENCH ORMOLU, BRONZE AND WHITE MARBLE MANTEL CLOCK
Second half 19th Century
Modelled as a winged putto seated on a flower-adorned fluted pedestal supporting the clock in the form of a drum, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals and Arabic minute divisions, signed Robin HGER DU ROI A PARIS, the twin-train movement with countwheel strike on a bell, on a square plinth and toupie feet, the reverse with presentation plaque inscribed THIS CLOCK AND CANDELABRA (lot 25) WERE PRESENTED TO LORD HARDINGE OF PENSHURST IN DECEMBER 1922 BY THE MEMBERS OF HIS STAFF ON HIS RELINQUISHING THE POST OF AMBASSADOR TO THE FRENCH REPUBLIC
