In the manner of Jean Henri Riesener, last quarter 19th Century

The rectangular top inset with a gilt-tooled green leather writing surface, above three frieze drawers, the sides each with a pull-out slide above a projecting panel, the canted angles headed by foliate cast mounts, on square tapering legs, with foliate cast sabots

Lot Essay

This bureau plat, in the Louis XVI style, bears similarities to that of a bureau plat supplied by J-H. Riesener for Madame Sophie de France (d. 1782), the sixth daughter of Louis XV, to Versailles in 1779. It was sold in these Rooms 1st December, 1983, lot 34.
