The present three-sided pedestal appears to be a variation of Linke's popular index number 126, designed in 1892 and produced up until 1930, when the last example was made for the King of Egypt. The standard model features a marquetry of ribbon-tied trailing flowers to the front, as here, but with parquetry and Linke's signature 'crab' clasp
to the remaining three sides. For a pair of the latter, see Sotheby's, New York, A Private Collection, Volume I, 26 October 2006, lot 102 ($132,000).
