The 'dubbelkap' hood centred by a foliate carved clasp and surmounted by giltwood figural finials, the top and sides with foliate pierced sound frets, the front door with ebonised Corinthian columns, the parcel-gilt and polychrome painted dial with rolling moonphase to the arch, painted spandrels depicting the Four Seasons to the silvered chapter ring, the centre with date aperture below, cast brass hands, lever for spelen/niet spelen to the lower right corner, the short duration movement with four ringed pillars, anchor escapement, Dutch strike on two bells above, the musical train mounted to the right side of the movement playing three tunes with twenty-four hammers on twelve bells via 12.5 cm. long brass pinned barrel; two brass weights, pendulum

Sellink attributes this clock to Tasma on basis of the quality of the clock in general, the type of hands and the fact that Tasma is known to have made musical 'staartklokken'; music is a feature on this type of clock.

A longcase clock by Douwe Jelles Tasma dated 1807 is illustrated in J. Zeeman, De Nederlandse staande klok, Zwolle, 1996, p.337. That clock has also a musical movement, a painted dial of related design and similar hands to those found on the present lot.

Douwe Jelles Tasma (1754-1850), had his workshop in Grouw (Grou).
