Sellink attributes this clock to Tasma on basis of the quality of the clock in general, the type of hands and the fact that Tasma is known to have made musical 'staartklokken'; music is a feature on this type of clock.

A longcase clock by Douwe Jelles Tasma dated 1807 is illustrated in J. Zeeman, De Nederlandse staande klok, Zwolle, 1996, p.337. That clock has also a musical movement, a painted dial of related design and similar hands to those found on the present lot.
Douwe Jelles Tasma (1754-1850), had his workshop in Grouw (Grou).
