A GEOMETRIC GREEK BRONZE SEATED MALE FIGURE
CIRCA 750-700 B.C.
Seated on a stool with elbows resting on his knees and left hand to chin, with long instrument in right hand, finely detailed with striated fringe of hair at back of head and eyes rendered with depressed circles, on integral square seal base with four triangular divisions on underside, on wood mount
1¼ in. (3.2 cm.) high; mount 2½ in. (6.3 cm.) high

Lot Essay

Cf. Exhibition catalogue, The Pomerance Collection of Ancient Art, The Brooklyn Museum, New York, 1966, p. 79, no. 89, for a seated Geometric bronze figure with long instrument and similar features. It has been suggested that these figures are flute-players.
