The uprights cast with swagged urns flanking the bowed basket with gadrooned borders

Provenance
Formerly: Ampthill House, Bedfordshire.
Ampthill House was purchased in 1919 by the architect Sir Albert Richardson (d.1964)

Lot Essay

The hob grate, with its reed-gadrooned pillars embellished with laurel-festooned urns relates to patterns featured in the London stove grate maker William Glossop's, Treasury of designs issued as The Stove-Grate Makers Assistant, 1771 , pl.1 (C.Gilbert and A.Wells-Cole The Fashionable Fire Place Leeds, 1985, fig.32).
