A slightly more elaborately carved stool of this type was sold from the collection of the late Samuel Messer, Esq., in these Rooms, 5 December 1991, lot 55
A pair of gilded mahogany window seats at Glin Castle, Co.Limerick and with an earlier irish provenance, have an almost identically carved legs so it is possible that this small group are Irish (see: J.O'Brien and D.Guinness, Great Irish Houses and Castles, London, 1952, p.149)
