A George II oak and mahogany longcase clock, circa 1740
The breakarch hood with later turned urn finials, glazed side panels and inset brass-capped columns, the 'onion' arched trunk door with wide cross-banding and flanked by stop-fluted angles, conforming banding to the plinth with thumb-nail mouldings and raised on a simple skirting, the 12in. wide brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to a Roman chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers and signed Step. Lum/Chelmsford, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and engraved border to the date aperture, pierced steel hands, convex disc in the arch engraved with a displayed eagle and TEMPUS FUGIT, the five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell, built out cheekboards, possibly associated -- 88in. (223cm.) high
