Shaped oval and on four shell and scroll feet and with shell and scroll handles, partly-fluted domed cover and vase-shaped finial, with gadrooned borders and later engraved with a coat-of-arms, the cover with a crest beneath a Marquess' coronet, marked under base and on cover - 16½in. The arms are those Browne quartering Kelly for John Denis, 1st Marquess of Sligo, K.P., (1756-1809), son of Peter, 2nd Earl of Altamont (d.1780) and his wife Elizabeth, only daughter and heiress of Cheif Justice Denis Kelly of Jamaica. He was created Marquess of Sligo in Ireland on 29 December 1800 and a Peer of the United Kingdom as Baron Monteagle of Co. Mayo on 20 February 1806
