A George III cream-ware tankard with Norwegian silver mounts The cream-ware body English, circa 1800, the silver cover with maker's mark of Christian Appelgren, Drammen, 1827 The cylindrical cream-ware body printed in red with figures in rural landscape of two boys fishing with a woman and child seated beneath a tree, the interior printed with a scrolling acanthus and grotesque mask border, the hinged domed silver cover with fluted border and inset with a silver-gilt coin within a hexagonal cartouche, with hippocamp thumbpiece, marked on cover 7in. (18.5cm.) high

Lot Essay

The cover is inset with a reduced and later gilded Five-francs from the reign of Louis XVIII, dated 1818.
