This lady's work-table with removable sketch book-tray relates to the Gillows design for a satinwood and tulipwood banded 'Sheveret' table of 1790, is illustrated in L. Boynton (ed.),Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 150, and p. 170.
A similar tulipwood and kingwood cheveret table was sold by John Keil, Sotheby's, London, 7 April 1998, lot 78. A further tulipwood example, with the same incurved undertier and with a more rectangular carrying-handle was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 6 April 2000, lot 77.
