A George III mahogany longcase clock, circa 1785
The hood with brass stop-fluted columns and conforming pilasters to the rear slats, glazed side panels, with moulded frame to the trunk door and raised plinth panel, the 12 in. wide dial with foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, silvered centre with recessed seconds disc and date aperture, signed James Vigne London, blued steel hands, with strike/silent ring to the arch, the eight day movement with five pillars, anchor escapement, rack strike and trip repeat on bell -- 87 in. (221 cm.) high
