The case with acorn finial to the inverted bell top, pierced sound frets to the front and sides, on bracket feet, the dial signed Higgs.y/DIEGO EVANS/BOLSA REAL/LONDRES on a sector in the matted centre with calendar apertures, brass chapter ring with pierced steel hands, musica/silencio ring in the arch, the six pillar triple fusee (wire and gut lines) movement with anchor escapement (converted), quarter chiming on eight bells via eight hammers, with hour strike on further bell, pull quarter alarm, the backplate engraved with scrolling foliage and signed Higgs.y/DIEGO EVANS/LONDRES, the suspension mechanism and pendulum later, one finial lacking, later alarm

James Evans was active circa 1773-1805 and made many clocks and watches for the Spanish market under Diego Evans and also in cooperation with Higgs (G.H. Baillie, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, London, 1966, p. 102).
