A GEORGE III SILVER-GILT CUP & COVER OF NEO-CLASSICAL FORM,
MARK OF WILLIAM HOLMES, LONDON, 1797,
Vase-shaped with foliate handles, the fluted foot with laurel border, the sides with fluted lower section below applied, ribbon-tied, floral swags & two oval medallions, one vacant, the other chased with playful putti & a chariot drawn by a pair of lion cubs, the upper section with frieze of fruiting vines, the cover chased with stiff leafage, a band of fish-scale decoration interrupted by occasional floral medallions & capped by a fluted & foliate-chased ovoid finial, 17 7/8 in. high (45.5 cm.), 82 oz.
