Lot Essay

This model of bergere is derived in part from the design of an exceptionally rich pair of bergeres supplied to the Duke of Northumberland for for the Ante Room to the Crimson Drawing Room, Northumberland House in 1823 by Morel & Hughes (F. Collard, Regency Furniture, Woodbridge, 1985, p. 111, pl. 12).
