Lot Essay

The arms are for the marriage of Lord George Augustus Henry Cavendish (1754-1834) MP for Derby and third son of the 4th Duke of Devonshire, to Lady Elizabeth Compton, daughter of the 7th Earl of Northampton. George became 1st Earl of Burlington in 1831 and died in 1834.
