A GERMAN LONG WHEEL-LOCK CUIRASSIER PISTOL
Circa 1620-30
With two-stage barrel with countersunk bore and the breech struck with barrelsmith's mark, '.Z.' in a shaped shield, together with the initial 'G' above, flat lock struck with the maker's initials 'MS' (Neue Støckel 4051), external wheel retained by a tripartite bracket, sliding pan-cover, fruitwood full stock inset with horn washers for the side-nails, small inventory stamp beneath the lock (cracked beneath the lock, chipped along the ramrod channel), the butt fitted with safety-catch and flattened 'fishtail' pommel with iron plate over the end, iron trigger-guard, an iron band over the mouth of the ramrod channel, horn fore-end cap, and original ramrod with iron baluster tip.
