A German Renaissance-style repousse silver and carved ivory charger**
Circa 1890
The border with scalloped edge and band of trailing vines, inset with four deeply-carved panels, each depicting a bacchanale, alternating with repoussé figures of Bacchic herms and caryatids flanked by scrolling foliage and fruit, the well centred by an oval panel depicting the crowning of Cupid with attendant bathing bacchantes, satyrs and putti, bordered with a repoussé design of scrolling acanthus, cornucopiae, dolphins and Bacchic masks, with standard German assay marks and Austrian import stamp for 1872-1901, encased in a later glass-topped mahogany low table
The charger: 31¼in. x 25¼in. (79.3cm. x 64.1cm.); the low-table: 27in. (68.5cm.) high
