Ulm, circa 1580, maker's mark a merchant's mark in the form of the letter 'x' with central crossbar (M. Rosenberg, Die Goldschmiede Merkseichen, Frankfurt am Main, 1925, vol. 3, p. 347, no. 4766)
The spreading circular base on three winged cherubim feet, the tapering cylindrical bowl with moulded rim, engraved above with a band of scrolling foliage and three roundels, probably originally enamelled, of foliate scrolls, the detachable domed cover with similar band and with spool-shaped finial surmounted by the figure of a walking man, marked on base
