A GREEK GOLD AND GARNET NECKLACE
HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 3RD-2ND CENTURY B.C.
Formed from a length of loop-in-loop chain, each end with a horned lion-griffin terminal backed with a barrel-shaped garnet framed by a ridged collar, the beaded wire horns and the ears made separately and inserted, a hook-and-loop closure projecting from their mouths, now joined to an ancient rosette centered by a garnet, with a pendant formed from a single Hellenistic earring in the form of a bejeweled winged Eros topped with a garnet in a dog-tooth mount
