Lot Essay

The large rouble commemorates the dedication of a monument to Alexander II at the Kremlin in Moscow. The construction of the monument was started by Alexander III in 1893 and completed by Nicholas II in 1898. For further information, please see V. Smirnov, Opisanie Russkikh Medalei, St Petersburg, 1908, pp. 578-579, no. 1148.
