A Group of Late 18th or Early 19th Century Swords A Continental sword with unusually broad 27½in. (70cm) slightly curved fullered blade, bearing traces of blued and gilt decoration and inscribed VIVE LES CHASSEURS DU BRABANT, VAINCRE OU MOURIR POUR LA LIBERTE and Prise de Bruxelles Par les Propres Patriotes la 22 xbre 1789, well-made brass guard with two side-bars (one bar partially detatched), ridged, wire-bound wooden grip, cast pommel in the form of a Monster's head (no scabbard); two Troopers' 1796 Light Cavalry pattern sabres (both lacking scabbards); a sword (in relic condition and lacking scabbard) with 26in.(66cm) straight blade, steel guard with side-bars and leather-covered wooden grip; and a wide black leather scabbard, 33in.(84cm), slightly curved, with crude brass mounts.
