Of bright steel, composed of a main plate shaped to the upper part of the horse's head and shaped round the eyes and ears, riveted ear-guards, and separate shaped central escutcheon, the main plate pierced with three pairs of holes for lining-points and the attachment of a pate-plate (missing), and with broad recessed border and turned knurled edge along the front and sides, the ear-pieces with recessed border, and domed iron rivets throughout
