Decorated in mother-of-pearl, soapstone, horn, malachite, coral and silver wire, with moths in various stages of flight around a blossoming prunus tree and rockwork, the reverse with a fourteen-character inscription

Lot Essay

The inscription reads ye ban meng hui ming yue shang/yi mei su ying guo qiang lai which can be translated as: 'half through the night I awake from my dreams in the moonlight, a swift shadow passes across the wall'
